Uniting for Good Jobs at FreshDirect

In October, maintenance workers at Fresh Direct will vote in an official union election.

The vote will be run by the National Labor Relations Board.  This is the latest step in Local 805’s campaign to win living wages, affordable healthcare and a voice on the job for FreshDirect workers.

A victory will give the 21 workers in the maintenance department the right to bargain a union contract—and it will bring our union to Fresh Direct for the first time.

The next step will be to win union rights for Fresh Direct workers in every department.

Some 1,200 workers are employed by FreshDirect. Pay starts at $8.50 an hour. Workers have no affordable healthcare and no retirement plan.

“We want a voice and respect on the job. We want wages and benefits that will give our families a better future. That’s why we’re uniting to join Local 805,” said Luis Manuel Cruz and Walter Garcia, two maintenance department workers and leaders of our Teamster organizing drive.
