NYers Stand Up Against Job-Killing Wal-Mart

New York Jobs with Justice, a coalition of unions and community groups, is collecting signatures to send a clear message that New York City doesn’t want job-killing Walmart setting up shop in our back yard.  Click here to sign the petition.

Wal-Mart is spending millions to sell New Yorkers on the idea that they’ll create jobs in the city.  There’s no doubt that Wal-mart has low prices—but their cheap goods come at a high cost.

A recent study released by Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and the Hunter College Center for Community Planning and Development said that for every two jobs Wal-Mart creates, three other retail jobs are lost.

Many of those lost retail jobs are union jobs—that pay union wages and benefits. That’s why Teamster locals, the UFCW and other unions are backing the Walmart Free NYC campaign.

Walmart Free NYC is a coalition of concerned workers and residents, small business owners, community leaders, clergy and elected officials who are committed to increasing economic opportunities, preserving local businesses, and bringing more jobs to communities across New York.
